Pain and bewilderment in the world of volleyball, not just in Puglia. Marco De Palo from Molfetta, a player in the past and currently a coach, died at the age of 49 due to an illness that took him a year and a half. He leaves behind his wife Valentina and his two children. De Palo lived in Ponzano Veneto and worked at the Banca Intesa San Paolo in Treviso.
Pupil of Pino Lorizio, coach of Taranto, he played in the B1 in Molfetta, and then moved to the North, where he was discovered by Johnny Cappelletto and taken under the protective wing of coach Luciano Sturam. With Sturam he always played in B2 in Casier, Paese and in Padua’s Trebaseleghe, transforming from winger to assistant coach and gaining promotion from B2 to B1. Subsequently, he was first team coach in D and in the youth teams of Montevolley in Montebelluna and Cornuda, and also played in Mestre volleyball. The Molfetta volleyball club remembers him with a post on social media.
“Bad news shocks the world of Apulian volleyball. Marco De Palo leaves us, a former athlete who wore our colors between the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s in the unforgettable battles played at the Palazzetto in via Giovinazzo. He lost the most important match, but he remains a great example and the memory of a splendid person. Volleyball Molfetta ASD expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the late Marco. A big hug!”
