Tonight on TV Cupid’s voicethe first of three new films in the series As long as it ends well. Brilliant comedy, but also romantic which amuses and entertains with an apparent lightness. A film aimed at speaking to the heart and touching sincerely, with a prestigious cast that makes the narrative fluid and pleasant. Between misunderstandings, clashes and comparisons, the plot involves and invites reflection thanks also to its protagonists who offer a convincing interpretation.
The protagonist is Paola (played by Chiara Francini), an independent truck driver, rough in character but with a sensitive heart, which a few days before New Year’s Eve is in the running to win the title of Trucker of the Yearan important recognition that had also touched his father. Paola usually faces long players you travel by listening “Cupid’s Voice”a romantic podcast hosted by the charismatic Lucio (Giorgio Marchesi), whose voice she fell in love with without ever meeting him in person.
Fate brings her face to face with Lucio when, in a bizarre accident, her truck breaks down just after colliding with him. Forced to continue the journey together with Lucio and Carlo (Michele Rosiello), an elegant NCC driver with a refined style but with a complicated past, Paola embarks on a new emotional but also geographical journey, which makes the film a decidedly interesting road movie. To act as a backdrop to the various scenes the breathtaking landscapes of Calabriaits streets and beautiful local settings, including small workshops.
“Cupid’s Voice”, how it ends
It final of Cupid’s Voice has a simple explanation: it reveals a return to normality but also the acquisition by the protagonists of one personal awareness. Paola, who until then had hidden her frailties, takes note of hers feelings: not only towards Lucio, but also towards herself. While Lucio is forced to face the gap between the idealized voice he spreads in the podcast and the difficulty of being authentic in his everyday life.
Which reveals not a simple happy ending, but the characters’ choice to follow a more challenging but sincere path capable of leading to daily happiness and serenity. Listen to yourself, trying to realize one’s desires can often counteract with social conventions, but it is certainly an act of intellectual honesty.
Cupid’s voice it does not aim to revolutionize the romantic genre, but tries to reinterpret it with a different sensitivity, offering a conscious space for second chances, which everyone deserves. The film airs tonight on Rai Uno at 9.30pm.
