Trudeau lecturing Italy on LGBT rights. But it is the same one who froze the accounts of those who protested against him

Rome, May 19 – The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau attacked Italy and the current government led by Giorgia Meloni on the subject of LGBT rights.

Trudeau against Italy: “Concerned about LGBT rights”

During their bilateral meeting on the edge of G7 Of HiroshimaTrudeau and Meloni had an exchange on the subject of civil rights, with the first who just before the meeting declared in front of journalists: “Canada is concerned about some positions that Italy is taking on the subject of LGBT rights”. To then add, referring to his Italian counterpart: “But I can’t wait to talk about it with you.” A rather informal attack that is also reported in a note on the Canadian presidency website regarding the face-to-face between the two: “Leaders also exchanged views on the importance of protecting and defending human rights, including the rights of people 2SLGBTQI+”. If anyone were disoriented by this last acronym, here is the explanation given by the Canadian government itself: “2S: at the beginning, it recognizes the Two-spirit (two spirits) like the first 2SLGBTQI+ communities; L: lesbian; G: gay; B: bisexual; T: transgender; Q: queer; THE: intersex, considers the characteristics of sex beyond sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression; +: includes people who identify as part of different sexual and gender communities, who use additional terminology”. Incidentally, Two-spirit is a controversial term introduced in 1990 to describe a sort of third gender that would be present in the tradition and in the communities of Native Americans.

Meloni’s response: “The government is following the decisions of the courts”

As can be easily guessed, at the origin of Trudeau’s accusations there would be the question of the so-called rainbow families, with recognition stop at the birth of the children of homoparental couples. Also in the note released by the website of the Canadian presidency, the Italian reply reads: “Prime Minister Meloni replied that his government is following the decisions of the courts and is not deviating from previous administrations”. Closed game? Not at all. The matter has sparked several comments. Could not miss that of the deputy of the Democratic Party Alexander Zanwho tweeted: “Trudeau expressed concern to Meloni about the situation of LGBTQia+ rights in Italy. Meloni would do well to remember that there is no Orban at the G7, there is no Dudathere are the leaders of the Western world where rights are a common heritage. The one out of place is only her”. As if the one who proved to be uninstitutional and undemocratic in this case wasn’t really the ultra-liberal and ultra-progressive Trudeau.

The secretary of + Europa is also on the same line Riccardo Magi. “As an Italian and as a European I am sincerely embarrassed. We are in 2023, at the G7, among the greats of the world, and we still have to be called back for the rights denied to the LGBTI+ community”. Almost as if Italy has to submit to the little lessons of the first one that passes. But Magi’s delirium, evoking none other than the legalization of cannabis as a great gesture of civilization: “Embarrassed because compared to Canada and a liberal premier like Justin Trudeau, who during his administration legalized cannabis, Italy is Europe’s black hole on rights. Embarrassed for the LGBTI+ people living in Italy and for the international isolation to which this government is relegating our country”. Who knows if the same embarrassment also occurred when Trudeau he froze the accounts of protesters against his rule.
