Tim Burton, who directed the Netflix series dedicated to the Addams’ daughter, put her next to him on purpose: a roommate capable of making Wednesday’s dark spirit a little more ironic and light, by contrast. The experiment was successful: on TikTok the videos, published by fans of the series and dedicated to the friendship between the two girls, are depopulating.

“To be honest, Wednesday’s not Enid’s best friend,” observed Emma Myers, who plays Wednesday’s roommate at Nevermore Academy, the school for “weird” kids. “Wednesday basically just uses people for their own interests,” she added while speaking with her Refinery29. Yet the relationship between the two slowly and patiently begins to work. Enid, who is a werewolf and has a difficult relationship with her parents, immediately makes up her mind to bond with her strange, always sulking companion. He overwhelms her with an avalanche of optimism, knits and cheerfulness. If Wednesday sees social media as “a soul-sucking vacuum with meaningless claims,” Enid runs a gossip blog. If Wednesday never abandons her black clothes, Enid offers her coordinated outfits like real bffs.

“Enid Sinclair,” explains a variety Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, “She’s the epitome of everything Wednesday hates: girly colors and nonstop chatter. We had so much fun with her. After Wednesday’s sombre colors, Enid’s palette of orange, pink and yellow was a sunny contrast, which helped make them both more different from each other as characters.” According to Myers, Enid is essential to create empathy around the character of Wednesday that she tends to take very seriously and always remain the same. “I really like that she’s sort of comic relief; she is very bright and bubbly,” commented the actress. On Twitter and TikTok there are those who try to reproduce her multicolored outfits and who hope that something more than friendship can be born between Wednesday and Enid. For now it seems that the series is going in another direction, but to have more elements on their relationship we will have to wait for the second season.
