Ancona, 2 July 2024 – Dead by drowning at 12 years old, the Prosecutor’s Office opened a case for manslaughter after the tragedy which took place last Saturday in Falconara. The person who lost his life was a child of Senegalese origin who had recently moved, with his family, to Castelferretti.
For now, the public prosecutor Ruggiero Dicuonzo has not registered any suspects but has delegated the Carabinieri of the Tenenza to carry out all the necessary investigations. Fundamental will be the testimonies of people present on the stretch of beach where the Bedetti platform and the nearby bathing establishments are located. It was precisely in that stretch of water that Abdou Diokhane, who just turned 12 on June 18, found his death. The 12-year-old was with two other friendsof the same age, played in the water and enjoyed climbing onto the pier called the Bedetti platform, which is nothing other than a cover for the sewer overflows that are located underneath. Passing through the sea they would be They climbed onto the concrete pier and dived from there. There were some swimmers who had noticed them shortly before. Suddenly, however, Abdou was seen annaspare by the two friends who were with him and sink into the waters made less transparent by the mucilage.
The children have asked for help but despite the timely arrival of the rescue team, ambulance and lifeguards on duty, there was nothing that could be done because the body was found only after about twenty minutes and the 12-year-old’s heart never recovered.
The Prosecutor’s Office did not order an autopsy on the child’s body because the external inspection of the body by the coroner was sufficient and did not reveal any trauma or wounds. Abdou he didn’t even have a scratchno bruises from a fall or from hitting a blunt object. In that stretch where he was later found there are no rocks. So he wouldn’t have hit his head.
The Carabinieri are examining the hypothesis of whether the child could have been pushed into the waterwhile he was on the platform, for fun by other children and then fell at sea not by his own will since he couldn’t swim and he would never have dared to risk so much. The body was found about twenty meters after the gate that the pier is equipped with, in a stretch where the water would reach a depth of up to two meters due to the basins that form underwater with the movement of the waves.
And particularly treacherous sea for those who are not familiar with swimming because it is a meeting point of several currents due to the presence of the platform. Precisely for this reason there is a sign prohibiting diving and a gate closed with a padlock, put there by Viva Servizi, to prevent people from going there. A ban that is violated by many. The pier has not been seized and for now the Prosecutor’s Office has not found any responsibility for the safety of the platform since access is actually prohibited. A platform that is not supervised anyway.
We will have to understand if the child he suffered from some pathology to determine an illness that occurred while he was in the water. They will be heard the two underage friends who were with him, both Italians, to reconstruct that morning well. The mother and father of the 12-year-old were not on the beach with him, they arrived shortly after the tragedy and the woman also felt ill.
