The regional government communicated this during the usual Monday press conference a few hours after the flood event that hit the region on Saturday 29 June, with the towns of Cogne and Breuil-Cervinia the most affected. The regional government has cancelled all commitments to focus its energies and attention on the state of emergency.

“Through Celva we are asking to quantify and report the damage suffered, so that we can correctly present the documentation to the civil protection by Friday 5 July to start the process of recognising the state of emergency”, explained the head of the Aosta Valley civil protection, Valerio Segor.

Meetings in the territories

On Thursday 4 July the regional council will go to Cogne in the morning and to Breuil-Cervinia in the afternoon for joint inspections with the local administrations “so as to be able to take a more detailed stock of the situation and collect the requests of the territories, so as to be able to give specific answers in the shortest time possible”, said the President of the Region, Renzo Testolin.

“This morning we met with the Aosta Valley parliamentarians with a view to raising awareness towards the Aosta Valley, so that we can obtain the right compensation for the huge damages suffered”, Testolin continued.

State of emergency

The recognition of the state of emergency goes through a complex process. The goal is to collect as much data as possible to present to the National Civil Protection, to then obtain the recognition of the state of emergency which, translated, means being able to benefit from compensation for damages suffered by private individuals, but also to infrastructures and for expenses incurred, for example, for the rescue of people.
