Pianengo (Cremona) – Six families evacuated that they had to search for hospitality for the night. This is the result of the fire that broke out at midnight yesterday in Pianengoin via Cimitero 61, in a garage in the basement of a two-story building where six families live and eight asylum seekers are hosted by the diocesan Caritas of Crema. One of these families was absent because on vacation, but the other five, for a total of 18 people, were made to leave the house when the firefighters arrived and had to take shelter with relatives and friends. The fire broke out in the shared garage at the base of the building. The flames quickly engulfed two cars and the household goods present.

Some passerby he noticed the flames and alerted the firefighters who arrived shortly. The firefighters had a tough job, the garage is underneath the building and the flames were very high. All the people living in the building were immediately evacuated and were quickly transferred to temporary accommodation. Inside the building there were also eight asylum-seeking boys who were transferred to Caritas or a hotel, while the other five families found accommodation on their own for the next few days. To get the better of the flames the firefighters worked until 4.30. “I issued an eviction order – dice Roberto Barbaglio, mayor of the townpromptly rushed to the scene of the fire – and we are awaiting the inspection of the technicians who have to verify the condition of the building”.

The firefighters have announced that at the moment it is impossible to trace the causes of the fire, none are being ruled out. Tomorrow the site inspection to check the condition of the building and verify the origin of the fire. However, it seems certain that the fire started from one of the two cars housed in the garage and then quickly spread to the other car and the household goods. The flames also damaged the upper box of the garage and for this reason it will be necessary to check its stability before allowing the families to return to their apartments.
