Old and new mayors in the Daunian Mountains

There were eight municipalities in the Daunian Mountains called to vote in this electoral round.

The real surprise comes in Troy, where Leonardo Cavalieri’s decade at the helm of Palazzo d’Avalos ended. His challenger Francesco Caserta prevailed with a convincing result: 2,303 votes (54.09%) for the new Mayor, and 1,955 preferences for the lawyer who stopped at 45.91%, losing over 700 compared to 2019.

In Volturino there was the most crowded competition, with four candidates, all “real” because they really intended to wear the tricolor sash after Francesco Di Pasqua’s step backwards. He won Giovanna Santacroce, lawyer and legal representative of the Ecoalba cooperative which manages waste collection in the village, with 436 preferences which were worth 41.25% of the votes, prevailing above all over Donato Dotoli (former mayor for ten years from 2004 to 2014) who reached to the 402 preferences, with 38.03%. Maria Velardi further behind with 170 votes (16.08%) and Angelo Marino closes with 49 votes and 4.64%.

In Biccari there will be continuity with the era of Gianfilippo Mignogna who governed for 15 years. He won his “designate” Antonio Beatrice although not easily, because he took 913 preferences which were worth 51.93% of the votes, against Costantino Soccio who got up to 845, i.e. 48.07%.

In Carlantino, Graziano Coscia was reconfirmed as mayor, beating for the second time his predecessor Vito Guerrera who had already worn the tricolor sash for 23 years: from 1986 to 1996, then from 2000 to 2010 and finally from 2015 to 2018. The success is numerically this : 324 preferences which are worth 57.96% of the votes, against 233 votes which are 41.68%.

In Volturara, Vincenzo Zibisco he obtained his second mandate, beating his predecessor Leonardo Russo for the second time in a row. In 2019, the accountant from Bari won with only 5 preferences, while this time he went ahead, with 208 votes worth over 75% of the votes, compared to the 68 taken by the former official of the Municipality of Lucera who stopped at 24 ,55.

TO Celle San Vito, Palma Maria Giannini he sought and obtained his fourth mandate, one of the very few first Italian citizens to boast this status recently “authorized” by the decree of the Meloni Government which extended the administrative life of Mayors for Municipalities under 5 thousand inhabitants. The smallest one in Puglia with the right to vote had only 275, and of these only 40.73% actually expressed their opinion, still giving confidence to the former official of the Ministry of Justice who obtained 74 preferences, against 25 Mario Ciullo and the 10 by Mario Gaspare Di Pippo.

In CastelnuovoMayor Guerino De Luca it was the only competitor, but it had the problem of registering at least 40% of those entitled to register in the two sections, a threshold easily exceeded with 68.7% which is effectively indicative of the renewed climate of breathing harmony in the village.
