Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, eleventh seeds, win 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 against the pair formed by the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and the Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the women’s doubles at Roland Garros and reach the final , where they will face the winning pair of the challenge between Dolheide/Krawczyk and Gauff/Siniakova.
Sara Errani had already reached the final in 2014, in the last Italian final in a women’s doubles at Roland Garros, playing together with Roberta Vinci. However, Errani and Vinci had been defeated.
Errani and Vinci had also triumphed in doubles at Roland Garros two years earlier, in 2012.
Jasmine Paolini will therefore play two finals in the same weekend: on Saturday in the singles against the Polish Iga Swiatek, world number 1, on Sunday in the doubles final.
Jasmine Paolini, now close to becoming number 7 in the world, after having reached the final of the Parisian Slam in singles by overwhelming the 17-year-old Russian Andreeva, together with Sara Errani with whom she recently won the 2024 Internazionali d’Italia, conquer the second final, that of the double. The Italians came to this match after having racked up nine consecutive victories between Rome and Paris, not bad, as Djokovic would say. In the Slam the Italian girls beat Babos/Khromacheva, Linette/Pera, Anshba/Detuc and Navarro/Shnaider in series. During their journey, the Italians did not surrender a single set, demonstrating the great form that has accompanied them throughout the current season.
Kostyuk/Ruse also had an immaculate progress to the semi-finals thanks to victories in two sets over Burel/Paquet, Bouzkova/Sorribes Tormo and Fernandez/Routiffe. The Ukrainian and the Romanian did not play in the quarter-finals thanks to the walkover of the couple made up of Mirra Andreeva, defeated by Paolini in the singles semifinal, and Vera Zvonareva.
