They were true heroes. The officers of the Aprilia Detachment of the Traffic Police intervened in a very serious road accident on the Pontina at km 18 towards Rome in which a man riding a scooter was involved. In the accident the man had been thrown from his horse and had almost amputated his arm, losing a lot of blood.
As later confirmed by the health personnel alerted by the police themselves, only thanks to the first aid measures implemented by the officers did the 46-year-old centaur save his life.
In fact, thanks to the first aid knowledge learned on duty, the two operators immediately took steps to block the copious leakage of blood from the limb above the wound which visually appeared to be almost completely amputated, first using the belt of their trousers and then a another strap found on the service car, continuing to keep him awake by recording the elapsed time and heartbeats.
Without those maneuvers, the unfortunate victim would not have been able to survive his very serious injuries. Subsequently subjected to a long surgery and multiple transfusions, the motorcyclist was able to save himself and, as soon as he regained consciousness two days later, he publicly thanked the Traffic Police and the two policemen.
