The Hague, with a decision of the International Court of Justice, ordered Israel to stop the military offensive in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, adhering to the request for a resolution in this direction by South Africa, which it welcomes I welcome the initiative.

“In accordance with these indications, under the genocide convention – said the President of the Court Nawaf Salam -, Israel must immediately stop its military offensive and any other actions in the Rafah governorate that could inflict living conditions on the Palestinian group in Gaza which could lead to their physical destruction, in whole or in part.”

The Court also ordered Israel to open the Rafah border crossing for humanitarian assistance, saying that to preserve evidence, Israel must take measures to ensure investigators have unhindered access to the Gaza Strip.

Finally, he ordered Israel to submit a report on the measures taken within a month, also urging the “immediate and unconditional release” of the Israeli hostages in Gaza.

A decision that forced Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to decide on a quick urgent telephone consultation with various ministers, including defense minister Yoav Gallant, foreign minister Israel Katz and with the attorney general chief of staff Gali Beharav-Miara.

Hamas’s reaction: a decision welcomed but on Telegram the statement that all this is not enough, calling for an “end to the offensive throughout Gaza”. “We appeal to the international community and the UN – continued Hamas – to put pressure on the occupation to immediately force it to resolve and to proceed with a serious and real application of all the United Nations resolutions that force the Zionist occupation army to stop the genocidal war.” In this message on social media, we omit to comment on the request with which The Hague requests the “immediate and unconditional release” of the Israeli hostages in Gaza.

A first very harsh reaction came from a member of the Israeli cabinet: “The irrelevant ordinance of anti-Semitic court in The Hague should have only one answer: the occupation of Rafah, the increase in military pressure and the complete destruction of Hamas, until complete victory in the war is achieved.” This was stated by the Minister of National Security – and radical right leader – Itamar Ben Gvir.
