SAINT-MAXIME – The pizza chef of Apulian origins Giuseppe Difonzo wins the prestigious L’Arcimboldo d’Oro award with 3 brushes. Difonzo thus established himself not only as a pizza chef, but also as a master baker.

From Palagianello to Sainte-Maxime, spreading Apulian culinary mastery in France: Giuseppe Difonzo was rewarded with the merit of having brought the renowned ‘Apulian white art’ to France, the timeless tradition also highly appreciated by citizens beyond the Alps. Difonzo, originally from Palagianello, settled permanently in France 7 years ago with his childhood friend Andrea Carpignano.

A friendship subsequently extended to the world of work: in Sainte-Maxime they created “Basilico Street Food”, a renowned restaurant considered unquestionably ‘the kingdom of puccia’.

“In France I carry on the tradition of my land. Customers can discover and taste the products that our beloved Puglia offers over 1300 km away: pucce – our workhorse – focaccia, friselle, burrata and much more” declared Difonzo on the occasion of the award ceremony.

The L’Arcimboldo d’Oro event took place in the splendid setting of Villa Elisabetta Luxury Events in Lettere (NA): elegant and suggestive location with a breathtaking view overlooking the sea and Vesuvius. “I wanted to thank the entire organization of this magnificent event” continues Difonzo, also sharing a very important warning: “Always remain humble and carry out this work with passion, because dedication and sacrifice pay off. Always!”.

Already in February Difonzo had won the Arcimboldo Prize and there are still other goals achieved in the world of pizza: just think of the success of his participation in the World Pizza Championship in Parma, where he competed in the categories of ‘gluten-free pizza’ and ‘pizza classical’.

Certainly the satisfactions of Difonzo and Basilico Street Food are only at the beginning, in the context of a career and a path that prove promising and will certainly still reserve surprises and novelties for us. Made in Puglia, obviously.
