An investigative story conducted by the prosecutor Giuliana Giuliano, under the coordination of the deputy prosecutor Simona Di Monte, delves in every sense: on the one hand the aim is to acquire elements capable of giving an explanation of the sudden failure of the toy train brake system; on the other hand we try to delve deeper into everything that revolves around the issue of workplace safety. On the field the “detectives” coordinated by the pool of Inail inspectors coordinated by Giuseppe Cantisano, on the other hand testimonies are collected.

This is the case of the very first testimonies acquired on the construction site by the police, starting with work colleagues and the injured workers themselves. The spotlight was on the consortium that had been assigned to define a section of the works. We are talking about a subcontract, obviously in a regime of full transparency and maximum regularity, as befits such a delicate intervention for city transport. At that point – we are close to via Ruffo di Calabria, a few steps from Capodichino airport – a decisive airport must be created for our transport system on a metropolitan scale. Enough to carry out close checks, in an attempt to understand whether the agreements imposed by European regulations have been respected, but also by the protocols designed in recent years by the Naples Prosecutor’s Office. It is the issue of safety at work. Training and compliance with the rules, especially in complex conditions such as those occurring in deep construction sites. According to what the first witnesses told, the failure of the braking system was sudden and uncontainable at the same time.

The reconstruction

He was killed on impact Antonio Russo, 63 years old from Giugliano, a few months after retirement, an enviable CV as a carpenter specialist. Was it possible that she hadn’t sensed the risk? Were there any reports prior to the event two days ago? One of the survivors (we talk about it in the piece you find on this page) recounted a photo-finish scene: when the train shot away there was no possibility of salvation, so much so that there were those who saved themselves by throwing themselves into the void, shoulders, in an attempt not to damage the external walls of the tunnel.

An investigation which is in its initial stages and which also aims to verify the number of people present inside the construction site, faced with a elementary principle of economy (and safety) of the contributions to be made within the working group. First acquisitions of papers, the checks continue in a scenario of full collaboration on the part of the consortium’s top management, never more willing than in this case to provide every possible element of clarity to the investigators. Nobody unbuttons the climate of mistrust among work colleagues, which resembles that found over the years, in the aftermath of every drama at work.
