Bergamo. The meeting of regional interest of the Lib Dems took place on Tuesday evening in Bergamo under the leadership of the Coordinator of the Lombardy Region Fabio Di Palma assisted by Giuseppe Bassi of Bergamo and in the presence of numerous other provincial leaders, as well as Piero Cecchinato National Secretary.

After greeting the guests, a brief introduction on the conduct of the ongoing electoral campaign by the national secretary and a summary of the path followed in recent months by the liberal democrats for the preparation of the administrative elections in the Municipality of Bergamo – which led, after the failure of the Third Pole, to the endorsement a Carlo Saffioti FI’s leading candidate and welcome guest of the evening together with Massimo Lena from Italia Migliore – the LibDem candidates for the European elections in the North West constituency spoke with the issues dear to them, Nadia Gallo from Turin and Luca Perego from Bergamo. Personal skills to bring to the European Parliament, two-speed Europe, structural reforms of the EU, analysis of the international context and policies necessary immediately for the defense of the EU, in particular for the conflict in Ukraine and the crisis in Palestine, qualification of the liberal component and development of liberal democratic values in the list of objectives of the United States of Europe, these are the main themes that were developed, also prompting interventions and questions from those present.

Carlo Saffioti intervened by retracing his political and professional life up to the decisive facts for his return to active politics in recent weeks: the impact of direct and dramatic knowledge of the great tragedy of the Israelis experienced during the recent trip to Israel, and the determined push and without conditions, of those gathered today in the evening. He therefore reconfirmed his commitment to the affirmation and strengthening of common values, and expressed sincere gratitude for the trust that LIBDEM together with Italia Migliore publicly expressed in a press conference a few weeks ago and which contributed to rebalancing the burdens of coalition that supports the mayoral candidacy of Andrea Pezzotta.

In the context of a broad debate on the political situation among those present, he also agreed on the need to reconnect the thread that connects a large part of the electorate, which unfortunately has been increasingly absent from voting for years, to liberal democratic representations which today, if not completely absent, they are present only fragmented in numerous groupings from right to left, with the effect of an effective political weight much less than what would actually be possible to express with a rational and radical reorganization of the political framework, so necessary for the renewal of Italian politics. The meeting was actively attended and concluded with best wishes to all the candidates and the appointment for the next regional meeting to be held in Milan by the end of the electoral campaign.
