Accident on the Cilentana: driver tested positive for alcohol

Investigations into the terrifying road accident that occurred are continuing on State Road 18 Variante Cilentana in the night between Sunday and Monday. The violent collision between two cars caused the injury of three people and the complete destruction of the vehicles involved. The accident occurred shortly before Roccagloriosa junction.

Dynamics and rescue

The accident involved a Fiat 500 driven by a 31-year-old from Bosco (San Giovanni a Piro) and a Hyundai Tucson in which a 32-year-old from Sapri and a 24-year-old from Novi Velia were travelling. The impact was extremely violent and caused the two cars to skid, ending up tens of meters away from each other.

The 118 medical emergency services immediately arrived on site and provided first aid to the injured. The 31-year-old from Bosco and the young couple were then transported to the “San Luca” hospital in Vallo della Lucania for further checks. Fortunately, their conditions are not serious and doctors expect recovery within five days.

According to what has been learned, the 32-year-old driving the Hyundai Tucson would have tested positive for alcohol. However, to have definitive confirmation, the results of the counter-analysis are awaited.

The Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of Sapri and of the Torre Orsaia station intervened at the site of the accident, coordinated by the Marshal Umberto Felice who are continuing investigations into the dynamics and aim to ascertain responsibilities.
