Harper the dog is heartbroken over his friend’s death, but finds a worthy replacement

He sees his best friend again who crossed the bridge. And despite not knowing each other for long, two heartbroken dogs can barely keep their paws off each other, as if they grew up together, in the same pod.

This is the very tender story of Harper, a Rottweiler who fell into depression after the death of Hudson, a Bernese Mountain Dog with whom he shared most of his life. It was 2022, and from that moment sadness took over. He was no longer the same dog. But everything changed when Jade, another Bernese Mountain Dog adopted by her human Michelle, entered her life last February. A gift from heaven.

One lost a friend, the other needed affection after a shaky start in life, and now together they make a perfect couple. “Harper immediately began interacting with Jade as she did with Hudson, which is unlike any other interaction she has had with other dogs in years.” The Rottweiler is “friendly to all dogs, but there is clearly something different about the Cattle Dogs that she loves. They play together so well, despite the 10 year age difference. Jade’s arrival in our family has brought out the puppy in Harper.”

And to think, Michelle, who lives in Melbourne, Australia, was hesitant to welcome another dog into their lives. She knew that Hudson would be irreplaceable and feared Harper’s reaction, already so affected by the premature farewell to his friend. Upon Jade’s arrival, everything was arranged for a controlled and gradual introduction, trying to guarantee both of them the right personal space, but “it was immediately clear to me that they wanted to be together”, showing us “the purest form of love. They are so beautiful.”
