Died at 22 in a used clothes bin, his family: “We are destroyed”

Fara Gera d’Adda. The gaze low and empty, the eyes swollen with emotion. “We are destroyed,” she says in a faint voice Gabriel Barzavabrother-in-law of Constantin Antoniethe 22-year-old from Fara Gera d’Adda found lifeless on Monday morning (6 May) in the bin for the collection of used clothes at the ecological station of Rectory of Addain via dell’Artigianato.

The day after the tragedy, the boy’s family explained that they had stopped at the Papa Giovanni hospital in Bergamo to identify his body. Gathered in silence in the living room at home, they strengthen each other as best they can. Only a few days ago – they say – they celebrated Orthodox Easter together.

“Here he is – the same relative always exclaims, showing a photo of the young man on his cell phone, accompanied by a black ribbon as a sign of mourning -. He was so young… he wanted to build a life here in Italy. He wanted to get married, buy a house”. Maybe by saving money from his work as a bricklayer, which he did occasionally.

The story is as dramatic as it is delicate. The 22-year-old, according to what was ascertained from the videos acquired by the police, had climbed over the fence at night to slip into the dumpster, most likely in search of some clothing. He instead met his death, becoming trapped in the tilting mechanism designed to insert used clothes without having a way to recover them.

Why he had illegally entered the ecological pitch and what he was looking for are questions that, in the face of such an absurd death, leave no time to be found. “It’s not the first time that things like this have happened and if something isn’t done it won’t be the last – reflects the same relative, who speaks on behalf of the family members present with a lump in their throats -. Those bins are dangerous, I wonder: why are they still in circulation?“.

Canonica d’Adda, man found lifeless in the used clothes bin

In the next few hours the public prosecutor Giancarlo Mancusi he will open an investigation file, just like his colleague had done Emanuele Marchisio four years ago, when in similar circumstances he died in Boltiere the small Karim Bamba, 10 years. The investigation ended a few months ago with the dismissal, on the recommendation of the same magistrate who had requested (unsuccessfully) the preventive seizure from the national territory of the model ‘1’, ‘2’ and ‘3’ bins, the oldest and dangerous, within which several people have already been fatally trapped.

The Ministry of Business and Made In Italy responded (much later) to the prosecutor’s reports, maintaining – in summary – that the safety of bins cannot be assessed on the basis of their incorrect use.

The will of the 22-year-old’s family is to bring his body back to Romania Târgu Jiu for funerals.
