The businessman Aldo Spinelli, who ended up under house arrest as part of the investigation by the Genoa prosecutor’s office, has been a well-known name in football since the 1980s. First an abundant decade with Genoa, led from 1985 to 1997, then the adventure with Livorno.

Spinelli, 84 years old, born in Calabria but raised in Genoa, founded the group of the same name, a leader in Italy in logistics and among the main port operators in the country and with its main headquarters in the port of Genoa. But his name is known above all in the world of footballas it was president of the Genoa and Livorno clubs.

On 1 March 1999, the entrepreneur became president of Livorno and, making use of the experience gained as owner of Genoa, succeeded in scaling the Amaranth club, taking Livorno from Serie C1 up to Serie A achieved in 2004. With him the Amaranto played four consecutive championships with a participation in the UEFA Cup in the 2006-2007 season reaching the round of 32. And after a year in Serie B, in June 2009 the owner brought Livorno back to Serie A. His experience at the helm of the Amaranth club, between ups and downs, ended in 2020.

In the Ligurian investigation Aldo Spinelli is accused of having bribed the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti.
