A meeting of the «Alzheimer’s and Dementia Fund» in Giovinazzo – GiovinazzoLive.it

«Let’s remember it first: New Strategies for the Prevention of Dementia» is the title of an initiative, the first in Giovinazzo, open to all citizens, which will be held in the «Family Center» inside the Scianatico park. The meeting, which will take place on Thursday 9 May from 5.30 pm, is promoted by the Coordination Unit of the scientific activities of the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Fund of the Puglia Region in collaboration with the Municipality of Giovinazzo, Confcooperative Sanità Puglia, Puglialzheimer and with the Gocce di Memoria Day Centre, managed by Scs Anthropos. The focus is on minor neurocognitive disorder, a clinical condition characterized by a slight decline in cognitive abilities, not serious enough to limit the subject’s functionality in daily activities.

Identifying the disorder early offers opportunities for intervention to slow and ideally halt the progression of the disease. The Puglia Region takes care of this for the «Fund for dementia and Alzheimer’s» coordinated by the degenerative diseases center of the University of Bari. The project, financed by the Ministry of Health, aims to improve the diagnostic-assistance path through homogenization of clinical tools and pathways in order to improve a regional healthcare system prepared for the timely inclusion of subjects with neurocognitive disorders in targeted therapeutic pathways. Thursday’s meeting is divided into four phases. During the first phase, institutional greetings are expected from the mayor of Giovinazzo, Michele Sollecito, followed by speeches from Maria Pia Cozzari, president of the Anthropos cooperative and Mauro Abate, president of Confcooperative Sanità Puglia. The second phase will focus on structured awareness raising in a conversational and interactive form. Speakers: Eleonora Rollo, Neurologist for the Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and Brain Aging, Cardinale Giovanni Panico Hospital – Tricase (Le) on «Neurocognitive disorder and related risk factors». Followed by Stefania Giammarino, Biologist and Nutritionist and Anna Rosa Illuzzi, Physiotherapist for the Gocce di Memoria Day Centre, will report on «The lifestyle». Finally Emanuela Tatulli, Psychologist and Psychotherapist for the Gocce di Memoria Day Center will speak on «The importance of early diagnosis».

The meeting enjoys the patronage of the Ministry of Health, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Puglia Region – Department of Health Promotion, Social Wellbeing and Sport for all; of the Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and Brain Aging of the University of Bari, Pia Fondazione Cardinale Giovanni Panico of Tricase.
