MA’RAKAH, 6 MAY – In recent days i blue helmets of the Italian Contingent of UNIFIThey concluded it on first direct support project for the Lebanese population.
The activity involved the village of Ma’Rakah, in the area of responsibility of Western sector of the Missionthrough a multidisciplinary and integrated approach which involved not only the military component of the Italian, Malaysian and Ghanaian Blue Helmets, but also some non-governmental organizations operating in the area and an important component of the Lebanese Armed Forces.
During the day, various activities were carried out jointly to support the weaker sections of the population. They have been carried out medical visits by Italian, Malaysian and Lebanese health teams financed by Sovereign Order of Malta, an Italian-led organization operating in the area of responsibility that joined the project. Furthermore, ainformation activities to explain to women and men from the village and from neighboring towns how to preserve foods and supplies better food.
Lastly, the civil and military cooperation component of the Western Sector organized the delivery to the local authorities of basic food supplies to contribute to the sustenance of displaced families who had to abandon their homes on the border Blue Line, the dividing line that separates Lebanon from Israel.
The Mayor of Ma’Rakah, present at all the day’s activities, thanked the Alpines from the ‘Taurinense’ Brigade and the Blue Helmets of the Western Sector for the initiative and for the constant commitment made in favor not only of security and stability, through their presence on the territory, but also for the generous solidarity in favor of the civilian population with direct support and aid and indirect connections with the network of humanitarian organizations. He also recalled how Italy, which has always stood by Lebanese communities in difficulty, has made it possible to help needy families.
