Ferrari breaking news: Sainz penalized in Miami for contact with Piastri!

The penalty against. arrived late at night in Italy Carlos Sainz, who took five seconds off the final time for causing the accident with Oscar Piastri in the last stages of Miami Grand Prix. To the pilot of the Ferrari therefore a further mockery, and he goes from fourth to fifth place, favoring Sergio Perez, who not only destroyed the first part of the race for the two Ferrari drivers with that bowling maneuver at the start, but also benefited from a contact which, objectively, did not seem at all dangerous and should be evaluated as a racing accident without too many cases being made up.

SENTENCE: CARLOS SAINZ PENALTY OF FIVE SECONDS

The Stewards listened to the driver of car 81 (Oscar Piastri), the driver of car 55 (Carlos Sainz), the team representatives and reviewed the video evidence and established that Sainz was overtaking Piastri at turn 17, when he lost slightly the rear and collided with car 81. The collision caused damage to the front wing of the McLaren. For us – we read in the note from the sports commissioners – it was clear that Sainz was to blame for the collision. In an attempt to overtake car 55 he braked late, missed the apex and in the process lost the rear, resulting in a collision.

Although car 81 was trying to swerve to thwart the overtaking attempt, it still gave car 55 sufficient space. Under the circumstances, we believe that car 55 is primarily responsible for the collision. In this case we took into account, as a factor mitigating factor is the fact that if it had not been for the slight loss of control of the rear by car 55, the collision probably would not have occurred and the fight would have been tough but regular. The standard penalty for a collision is 10 seconds with 2 penalty points. In light of the extenuating circumstances, we therefore impose a 5 second penalty with 1 penalty point.
