Fascinating cosmic encounter today May 5th, before dawn: the thin sickle of moon waning has reached Mars in the constellation Pisces, on the eastern horizon. The suggestive conjunction was immortalized by Gianni Tumino (photo in the gallery above).

There moon, our natural satellite, exerts a significant influence on Earth. It regulates ocean tides and influences the behavior of many animal species. Its surface is characterized by craters, plains and mountains, witnesses of a tumultuous past. Its gravity has a stabilizing effect on the Earth’s rotation axis, thus contributing to the regularity of the seasons.

Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun, is known as the “Red Planet” due to its oxidized surface. It has a thin atmosphere composed mainly of carbon dioxide and has geological features similar to those of Earth, such as volcanoes, canyons and polar ice caps.

There Valley of the Temples of Agrigento it is an archaeological site of extraordinary historical and cultural importance. This complex of Doric temples dating back to the 5th century BC was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. It is a superb example of ancient architecture and testifies to the importance of Magna Graecia in antiquity.
