Unfortunately, the elderly cyclist hit by a car on the morning of Saturday 4 May in Merate did not make it. The injuries suffered by the 83-year-old in the crash with an Audi which occurred in via Verdi, while he was traveling on his bicycle, were too serious. His condition immediately appeared very serious. As soon as the code red alarm went off, the man was rescued and transported in code red to the San Gerardo hospital in Monza where he arrived in desperate conditions and died after a few hours. Antonio Crippa, a former butcher resident in Merate, lost his life.

The exact dynamics of the accident are still being examined by the police who responded to the scene. It seems that the man had started a sudden maneuver to cross the road on his bike without realizing that the car was coming from the opposite direction and then hit him. The dynamics have yet to be officially confirmed, also following the testimonies collected by the police on site. The impact between the bike and the car was violent and the man would have been thrown a few metres. A collision later proved fatal. Also in via Verdi, at the intersection with via Cernuschi, another accident occurred two weeks ago with a 55-year-old pedestrian hit and taken to hospital.
