Disability, Liguria Region first in Italy to present the tender for the contribution to support the expenses for special licenses – Sanremonews.it

The Liguria Region supports people with disabilities with a new tender which provides for the assignment of a contribution to cover the costs of obtaining or reclassifying special driving licences. The contribution of the tender, which can reach up to one thousand euros per person, is financed with regional funds amounting to 31,849 euros, which appear to be a residue of resources already disbursed in 2023 in favor of the Regional Council for the protection of the rights of disabled people. The same Council is entrusted with the management of the investigation and the consequent disbursement of contributions. These are the details of the provision approved by the Regional Council on the proposal of the Councilor for Social Policies.

“With this resolution – explains the regional councilor for social policies – we wanted to propose a measure again for the second year, which is part of the network of many measures with which the Region intends to promote the independent and self-sufficient life of people with disabilities. With this contribution we want to offer another important support to encourage the mobility and autonomy of all those who want to obtain the special driving license as much as possible. A measure that we created in Liguria and of which we are particularly proud”.

“Liguria is the first region in Italy to have adopted this system, which has now entered its operational phase, to support the freedom of movement of disabled people – comments Claudio Puppo, secretary and coordinator of the Regional Council for Handicap – a great achievement if we consider that the person with the driving license will acquire more autonomy in socialising, at work, in sport and in general in daily life. Thanks to this initiative which saw the Council alongside the Region, since last year many people with disabilities have been able to overcome an economic obstacle. Not only that, because by supporting the costs for the special driving license, the waiting list of those requesting mobility assistance from the Municipalities is also reduced”.
