MXGP Qualifying Race

Jorge Prado, Jeffrey Herlings and Tim Gajser got off to a good start, taking possession of the first three positions in qualifying; Gajser launches into the attack and passes both Prado and Herlings in a single corner. An inaccuracy by Jorge Prado causes him to be relegated to sixth. Romain Febvre starts fifth and before the end of the first lap he has already recovered two positions, taking third place.

TO four minutes at the end of regulation time Tim Gajser is firmly in command, Jeffrey Herlings is second and Romain Febvre closes the provisional podium. Calvin Vlaanderen and Paul Jonass close the Top 5, paying a minute of delay from the leading trio. With two laps to go, Jeffrey Herlings tries to close the gap with Tim Gajser, setting the fastest lap. The lapped drivers compromise the action of the official KTM, which is unable to pass.

Tim Gajser wins the qualifying heat, second place for Jeffrey Herlings and third place for Romain Febvre. P11 and P12 for our Italians Mattia Guadagnini and Andrea Bonacorsi, while Jorge Prado finishes seventh.

MX2 Qualifying Race

It stops raining but the track remains soaked for the MX2 qualifying heat; Lucas Coenen’s shot from the gate was good and he took first place only to then fall shortly after. Same fate for Kay de Wolf and Thibault Benistant. Rick Elzinga, Hakon Osterhagen and Liam Everts started right behind table #96 and after his fall found themselves first, second and third respectively.

Spent three laps, Liam Everts, who passed second, successfully attacked Elzinga’s Yamaha, taking the lead in the qualifying race. In the middle of the standings Andrea Adamo battles first with Kay de Wolf and Thibault Benistant, getting the better of both of them and maintaining ninth position; he then handed it over to the Frenchman during the last lap.

Liam Everts wins the qualifying heat, Rick Benistant finishes second while Hakon Osterhagen finishes third; fourth place for Simon Langenfelder’s GASGAS and Lucas Coenen closes the Top 5, author of a good comeback after the final fall.

EMX250 Race 1

Adverse weather conditions give no respite EMX250, which like the eighth of a liter, takes to the field in pouring rain. Cas Valk takes the lead of the race from the beginning and does not give it up until the checkered flag, which confirms his victory. Second place for Mathis Valin and third for the red plate Valerio Lata.

Jorge Prado continues his positive streak of results, prevailing in free practice over Febvre and Herlings; the KTM official’s broken ribs seem to give him a little respite. Eighth time for Bonacorsi, who makes his debut in MXGP. Lucas Coenen and Kay de Wolf resume the pace set in the Sardinian GP; the former seems to have solved his shoulder problem and the latter is hungry for success after a bitter GP in Arco di Trento.

Round 2 – Portugal, 05.05.2024

Agueda, Round 5: we return to the scene with the Portuguese GP after a two-week break which brought some changes; first of all the entry of Andrea Bonacorsi into the MXGP premier class, as well as the return of Mattia Guadagnini to the race. The Italian tricolor therefore will no longer weigh only on Ivo Monticelli. In Arco di Trento Jorge Prado gave his rivals a moral slap in the face; he loses his seat in qualifying and shows his character by making a strong start in race 1, but it will be race 2 that will give further proof of the strength of the reigning champion, who returns home with the red plate glued to his GASGAS. Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre animated game 1 but then got slightly lost in game 2, and in a championship where every mistake is as heavy as a boulder… the word is yours.

In the cadet class Kay de Wolf, although without winning, proved that she has an edge. He who shone on the sand last year, this year is able to recover from last to P8, putting in only fast laps, all with a bad back and on a track with terrain that isn’t congenial to him. The Husqvarna rider returns home with the red plate but the winner is Liam Everts, constant and precise, he was able to exploit the weaknesses of the others and win the first GP. Unlucky teammates, Coenen breaks the bike and ruins race 1, while Adamo tries, but Trentino doesn’t reward him as much as he would like. Excellent race 2 for Bonacorsi, who however, as anticipated, moves up to the premier class. Ferruccio Zanchi is still on the bench, his shoulder seemed to be healed but an inflammation excludes him from the Portuguese GP.

The European Championship also takes possession of the Portuguese track; EMX250 and EMX125 return to the scene after the Arco Round. Valerio Lata is determined to keep the leader’s red plate but Mathis Valin and Cas Valk will want to reopen the championship. In the eighth of a liter Noel Zanocz and Gyan Doensen showed great speed but not consistency; if they do well in game 1 then they suffer in game 2 and vice versa, thus giving us a balanced and hard-fought season.
