(Adnkronos) – The Ecuadorian Jhonatan Narváez wins the finish line in Turin in the sprint in the first stage of the 2024 Giro d’Italia starting from Venaria Reale, arriving in Turin after 140 kilometers and the climb up the Colle della Maddalena. The Ineos-Grenadiers rider is the first pink jersey of the Giro. The first stage ended with a three-way sprint after the first uphill challenges which Narvaez ultimately won ahead of the German Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-hansgrohe) and the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), protagonist of an incredible recovery at the end. Tomorrow the second stage, the San Francesco al Campo-Santuario of Oropa (Biella) of 161 kilometres. Immediately after finishing Narvaez said: “It’s a fantastic feeling. We had planned such a finish with the team, but my legs still hurt after chasing Pogacar. He went very fast, but in the end I made it to beat him. In the sprint, I think he started too long.
