Since 6 this morning, the regional garrison has been underway in front of the Campi Bisenzio logistics center, in via delle Cicogne, by the contracted drivers of the Esselunga supermarket. A strike that involves not only the workers of Campi Bisenzio, but also those of Montecatini, Porcari and Livorno.

“Backbreaking shifts and unpaid overtime – say in a joint note Si Cobas Prato Firenze and Usb Livorno, promoters of the strike – non-existent safety conditions and failure to respect the Ccnl: these are the reasons that led to the fourth day of agitation, after the continuous refusals by the company to call the union representatives to the table”.

The unions make the comparison with another situation. “As at Mondo Convenienza – they observe – there is another case of couriers forced into a de facto piecework regime in the procurement and subcontracting system which kills rights and maximizes profits. A system, that of Esselunga procurement, which has already come under the scrutiny of the Milan Prosecutor’s Office which ordered the preventive seizure of 47 million euros and which has already outraged this area after the massacre in Via Mariti”.

The Via Mariti massacre itself makes the unions fear new deaths. “Here – they underline – yet another death could arrive every day, due to a worn tire or brake or simply due to tiredness while driving after 15 hours of deliveries in the van. To avoid having any more deaths we must now say “no more contracts”.
