“Io Capitano” wins as best film and direction, 6 Davids for “There’s Still Tomorrow”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Io Capitano” by Matteo Garrone wins the David di Donatello for best film and best director. Also going to “Io Capitano” were the Davids for best editing to Marco Spoletino, for photography to Paolo Carnera, for production to Archimede, Rai Cinema, Pathe and Tarantula, for visual effects to Laurent Creusot and Massimo Cipollina, and for the best sound to Maricetta Lombardo, Daniela Bassani, Mirko Perri and Gianni Pallotto. Garrone, receiving the award for best director, wanted to thank all the actors who “really made the journey”, and leave the floor to Mamadou, who inspired him, and to the two young leading actors from whom the dedications to the NGOs that save, all those who have died in the desert and at sea in an attempt to achieve the dream and the appeal “No more deaths in Palestine”. “There is still tomorrow”, with its 19 total nominations, was not the ace winner of the 69th edition of the David di Donatello. For “Kidnapped” the awards for best non-original screenplay went to Marco Bellocchio and Susanna Nicchiarelli, for best scenography to Andrea Castorina and Valeria Vecellio, for best costumes to Sergio Ballo (who was controversial because the award was not awarded at Theater 5, but at Studio 14, and for what he defined as “the anti-Semitism of Europe”) and Daria Calvelli, for best hairstyle to Alberta Giuliani. The 2024 edition of the Davids was characterized by the show entrusted to the hosts Carlo Conti, Alessia Marcuzzi with Fabrizio Biggio who began the show on the red carpet. Also on stage were Mahmood who broke the ice of the evening with “Tuta Gold” after the homage to Fellini, Giorgia who sang “I feel love” on the occasion of the David Lifetime Achievement award to Giorgio Moroder, Irama who with ” paid homage to all the actors who recently passed away, and Malika Ayane who did the same with “What a wonderful world” for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Marcello Mastroianni. All the paintings were accompanied by choreographies signed by Luca Tommassini.
The other awards went to Subsonica for Adagio for the composition, to Margherita Giusti for the short film with “The Meatseller”, to Justine Triet for the best foreign film with “Anatomy of a Fall”. Lifetime Achievement Awards were awarded not only to Moroder but also to Milena Vukotic. Special prize to Vincenzo Mollica for the story of cinema. David Italian revelations to Cecilia Bertozzi, Domenico Cuomo, Michele Eburnea, Leonardo Maltese, Fotinì Peluso and Yile Vianello.
