Giancarlo Giorgetti received it yesterday at the ministry from the world judo federation (IJF), and it was delivered to him by surprise by the singer Al Bano who went up the stairs of the MEF in the early afternoon, amidst the curiosity of the managers, entering the minister’s office .

Albano Carrisi is in fact ambassador of the International Judo Federation having composed the international anthem of that sport on the occasion of the world championships in Budapest a few years ago (he also sang it in front of Vladimir Putin in 2021). And together with the president of the IJF, Marius Vizer, other executives of the federation and Felice Mariani, the first Italian to win an Olympic medal in that discipline, the Apulian singer presented the honorary black belt to Giorgetti in an official ceremony at the MEF.

Giorgetti has an imposing physique, and is among the few sports ministers, but he is not a champion of that specialty. The black belt was awarded with a motivation that was actually rather late: as a reward for the sports reform that Giorgetti followed as undersecretary to the Prime Minister (and for «the commitment that the minister has shown in promoting an active lifestyle and healthy”) in the first yellow-green government of Giuseppe Conte, therefore between 2018 and 2019. But the minister did not quibble on the point and obviously thanked: «I am honored and moved by this recognition, especially since sport, in general, , represents for me not only a passion but also a fundamental value for growing and being reborn.” Giorgetti is actually passionate above all about football, and is a die-hard fan of the “Saints”, the nickname of the Southampton team which this year plays in the championship (the English second division) where at the moment they are in fourth place / good for the playoffs ) in a table dominated by Leicester, already mathematically promoted.
