Fatal accident in Marmirolo, 22-year-old on a motorbike tries to overtake a car, is rear-ended and then hit by a truck

Too many traumas in the deadly carom which ended with the death of a 22 year old originally from Sri Lanka and resident in San Giorgio Bigarelloat the gates of Mantua.

The young man, Ayesh Shashidu Warnakulasuriya Meththasinge, died on the spot. The dramatic accident occurred around 11.30am on Wednesday 1 May along the road Roverbella-Bancolenot far from the hamlet of San Brizio di Marmiroloalso in the Mantua area.

According to investigations carried out by the local intermunicipal police, the young motorcyclist was returning from Peschiera del Garda, in the Veronese area, and was headed towards Bancole di Porto Mantovano, probably to return home to San Giorgio Bigarello. Along the rather narrow road, the 22-year-old would have attempted to overtake the car who preceded him, but ended up in the deadly carambola that left him no escape.

After the accident, in addition to the local police, the firefighters and 118 health workers also immediately intervened and alerted the air ambulance that took off from Verona. Despite the attempts of the healthcare staff, however, there was nothing that could be done.

The 22-year-old lived in San Giorgio Bigarello with his family, who arrived in Italy a few years ago: he was a mechanic and worked in a local workshop. The body is now in the mortuary rooms of the Mantua hospital awaiting orders from the judicial authorities.
