The Fiamme Oro Sabaudia State Police Sports Group shines at the European Rowing Championships which took place on the waters of the Maty-Éri basin in Szeged (Hungary) from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th April. The ten crimson athletes brought home a Gold, a Silver and two Bronze Medals and other important placings, all results of the highest level which contributed to increasing the Italian medal count, thus placing Italy in third position overall behind Romania and Great Britain. The medal that shines most of all is the Gold one, won by the Men’s Couple Four formed by Ag. Carucci Niccolò together with Panizza, Chiumento and Gentili of the Fiamme Gialle. The four blue riders dominated from start to finish on a race course that was not at all easy, hindered by the strong headwind. The Italian boat preceded Switzerland by half a boat, while Poland came in third place. Other successes in the men’s field with the Silver Medal won by the Quattro Senza dell’Ag. Close by Giuseppe with Lodo Abagnale and Kohl. The Azzurri preceded France but surrendered only to the irrepressible Great Britain who at the end reacted to the attack of the Italian boat. A result of great importance which gives us hope for the next Olympic Qualifiers on 19-21 May in Lucerne, where this team will attempt to qualify for Paris 2024.
The first Bronze Medal was won instead by the Quattro Con PR3 Mixed, a Paralympic Specialty which sees the veteran Ag. D’Aniello Enrico at the helm of the crew and the Athletes Muti, Schettino, Frank and Foresti on the oarlocks. Great Britain and France occupied the first two positions right from the start but the Italians kept the Spanish boat away from the first meters, thus securing the Bronze around their necks.
The other European Bronze Medal, for the second consecutive year, came from the Women’s Eight led by Ag. Bumbaca Veronica; the blue flagship took third place from Germany and attacked Great Britain, second, to try to improve its position, while the Gold went to Romania.
Different result for the other flagship, the Maschile, of Ag. Della Valle Matteo who closes Quarto together with Frigerio, the Vicino twins, Gaetani Liseo, Monfrecola, Pietra Caprina, Abbagnale and Faella at the helm. Italy, while fighting to recover third position, had to surrender to Romania, Bronze, behind Germany, Silver, and Great Britain who took Gold around their necks. Both the Italian Eights, Women’s and Men’s, still have to go through the Lucerne Olympic Qualifications in order to make the five-ring dream come true.
Other important placings were achieved by the Women’s Couple Four of the crimson colleagues Ass. Cesarini Federica and Ag. Buttignon Stefania, together with Stefania Gobbi and Clara Guerra, who placed Seventh overall by winning the Final B, and by the Eighth place of the Due Senza Femminile by the new mother Ag. English-Hawke Kiri paired with Laura Meriano. In the same boat, but in the men’s field, the now consolidated duo of Due Senza of Agents Comini Davide and Codato Giovanni placed in sixth place. This European Championship was a good testing ground for the two events in Lucerne, the Qualifiers from 19th to 21st May and the World Cup from 24th to 27th, in the next few days, during the collegiate event scheduled in Varese, the DT Azzurro Franco Cattaneo will better define the various formations to be fielded. However, the preparation continues apace with a view to qualifying for the individual athlete Ag. Mumolo Davide in preparation in the waters of Lake Paola di Sabaudia under the watchful eye of the Isp.C. Molea Valter and the V.Sov. Gabriele Fabrizio who, in agreement with the Federal Technical Directorate, are individually following the specific training path for the Men’s Singles in view of Lucerne, where they hope to be able to obtain the much coveted Olympic Pass.
