The fourth request for dismissal from a public prosecutor has arrived in recent days for the case of the death of the young chef Raffaele Casale which occurred on the night between 15 and 16 August 2017 in an accident with his motorbike on Via Martiri di Palermo to Trani. The new request was still objected to by the Casale family, so the matter is far from over.
In reality, the investigating judge of the Court of Trani had already rejected a new request for dismissal and last July ordered the evidentiary hearing with the expert and forensic engineer Mario Scipione which highlighted some inconsistencies. There are currently five suspects. Three managers and officials from the municipality of Trani also ended up in the investigation together with a former administrator of AMIU. The basis of the decision would in fact be the evaluation of the state of maintenance and cleanliness of the road, the cycle path, the trees, the public lighting and the road signs which at that moment characterized the point where the accident occurred. All elements denounced several times by Raffaele’s father, namely Felice, who never believed in chance but in external factors that would have caused the fall and death of his son. The fifth suspect is a 40-year-old woman who has already been present in the investigation file for some time now as she was driving a car that was proceeding that night on Via Martiri di Palermo near the motorbike driven by Casale. For everyone, she is included in the register of suspects on charges of complicity in vehicular homicide. But precisely the testimony of the woman who followed Casale’s motorbike, according to father Felice, can be fundamental in a context in which, according to the family, the dark contours of an affair for which the statute of limitations on the charges also looms.
