In Sennori comes the eighth consecutive victory for Alghero which consolidates second place and remains -1 behind the leaders of group B of Promotion. At the “Basilio Canu” it ended 2-1 for the Giallorossi with goals from Mereu and Franchi arriving in the second half.

The first half ended goalless despite some good opportunities collected by the Giallorossi. In the 6th minute the first ring comes from Sasso, then in the 21st minute Captain Mereu tries with a free kick but the ball ends up over the crossbar. In the 25th minute the hosts also show up: Capra serves Pilo who challenges Piga, who does well to send it into the corner. Around half an hour, first Sasso for Alghero then Desini for Sennori try with two shots from outside the area. The most sensational opportunity, however, is in the 35th minute: Mereu hits the post from a free kick. In the 40th minute the hosts were left with ten men due to Desini’s expulsion, while the last gasp came almost at the end: Franchi received the ball from Meloni and severely challenged Magliona who took refuge in a corner kick.

In the 10th minute of the second half Alghero found the advantage with a specialty from their captain Stefano Mereu: a free kick that first hit the crossbar and then ended up in the net. Four minutes pass and Marco Carboni is fouled in the area. For the match director there is no doubt, it’s a penalty. From the spot goes the Argentine Franchi who beats Magliona. Despite the numerical inferiority, Sennori tries to close the gap and succeeds in the 33rd minute with Bonetto. 5′ from the end the last chance of the match: Franchi’s through pass to Meloni who shoots with a sure shot but finds the response from Magliona.

Thus it ends 2-1 for Alghero, who remain -1 from the top. Two matches still to be played: Sunday at 4pm at the “Pino Cuccureddu”, the last one at home against Lanteri Sassari. The Giallorossi club hopes that the city will respond to support the team towards the dream of Excellence.
