The idea of uniting three nations, washed by the same sea, within a basketball court is certainly not new, but we often forget that it is enough to unite a group of friends by sharing ideas and projects that include everyone, and especially our young athletes who are passionate about basketball.
Thus was born, over a cold beer, the collaboration between Maurizio Riosa (ASD Servolana), Zoran Ćato (KK Novigrad) e Zoran Lazarevski (BC Koper) to consolidate the friendship and carry out a project that will be called Young Adriatic Basketball League U14. A sort of mini-youth league that aims to involve our sports clubs and beyond. I thank Filip Brusic (KK Umag), Goran Mijanovic (KK Mesarija Prunk Sežana), Andrej Vremec (Jadran Basketball) and Guido Scabini (Salesians Don Bosco) who enthusiastically joined the project, deciding to participate and collaborate in the success of the tournament.
The formula is simple, an elimination round of six teams, where everyone faces everyone, then determining a ranking that will decide the pairings in the play-offs, which will be played on a single day on May 26th in the splendid Novigrad/Cittanova sports hall in Istria.
As Maurizio Riosa: “It’s an idea that I’ve had in my drawer for many years, all I had to do was decide when to open it and with whom. I thank all the coaches and managers of the participating teams who made their time, facilities and organization available for all ancillary services such as, for example, referees and table officials. The zero edition of YAL will therefore start on Sunday 5 May, that zero edition in which all the experiences, advice and mistakes are taken advantage of to carry forward a project that will certainly expand in the coming years. Finally, I thank the Servolana board of directors and in particular Roberto Ciriello for the support and enthusiasm in supporting this idea of ours dedicated to young people”.
