The matter linked to the dismissal of the director of the Portoferraio municipality Luca Donati ended in recent days with the first degree ruling of the Court of Auditors. The accounting judiciary condemned the former mayor of Portoferraio Mario Ferrari to pay approximately 97 thousand euros to the Municipality of Portoferraio. Also with him is the former municipal secretary Pierluigi Acerbi, but only on a subsidiary basis. The story dates back to 15 September 2016, the date on which the former chief accountant was formally fired for “violation of behavioral rules” and “repeated violation of the disciplinary code”. A measure that was immediately challenged by Donati, leading to an order from the Labor Court to reinstate him in the workplace, which however was initially ignored by the Ferrari administration. Hence, a long judicial tug-of-war, which ended with the reinstatement of the manager on 31 August 2018, two years after his dismissal. The requests of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office against the director of the time Mauro Parigi, the then vice mayor Roberto Marini and the councilors: Bertucci, Anselmi, Berti and Del Mastro were rejected.

Despite the conviction at first instance, the former mayor Ferrari says he is “serene and confident”. “I will challenge the sentence by appealing – Ferrari declared to Tirreno – I will demonstrate that there was no political will”.
