The 32-year-old from San Martino in Rio has just become Italian champion with Imoco and has the opportunity to also win the Champions League in the final against Milan. The future, however, lies in the newly formed League One Volleyball: “I have a lot of enthusiasm, but there are also question marks”
REGGIO EMILIA – The sixth championship in a row Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano is the second for Alessia Gennari with the shirt of the Venetian team, the third of his career. The series of matches against Scandicci was spectacular and balanced, ending 3-1 in favor of the Venetian champions. However, we have to wait to break ranks. The season will in fact end on Sunday 5 May in Istanbul with the Champions League final against Vero Volley Milano: “For me there couldn’t have been a better conclusion to this 2-year cycle in Conegliano. The level of tension will be very high, also because it will be the last match for many Imoco athletes.”
The spiker, who grew up in San Martino in Rio and with a past in Crovegli, boasts 107 appearances for the national team. With the Italians, however, the chapter seems to be closed given that she is not part of coach Julio Velasco’s plans. At 32 years old, however, Alessia is ready for a new experience: she will play the next two seasons in the United States in the newly formed League One Volleyball. “They have been trying to organize this overseas league for years – explains Gennari – Finally, it seems the right time has arrived. I have a lot of enthusiasm, but there are also question marks.”
