Maria Feliciana dos Santos, considered one of the tallest women in the world and who became famous in Brazil as the ‘Queen of Height’ in the 1960s, has died at the age of 77. At just 23 years old she managed to reach the record of 2.25 meters.

The woman’s relatives confirmed her death, which occurred in a private hospital in Aracajuwhere she was admitted last Monday after being diagnosed with one pneumonia, we read on Daily Mail. She would have passed away due to complications cardiac.
Born in Amparo do São Francisco, Maria Feliciana had toured several cities performing in circuses. In the 1960s she won the title of ‘Queen of Height’ in a competition organized by the Hora da Buzina program. In May 2022 a statue was dedicated to the woman at the entrance of the Museum of Sergipan People.

For many years Santos was considered the tallest woman in Brazil and the world, before she began to shrink as she aged. Following her sudden death, the mayor of Aracaju, Edwaldo Nogueirahe proclaimed three days of mourning and paid tribute to the former basketball player and singer.
“With sadness I received the news of the death of Maria Feliciana from Sergipana. – wrote the mayor in a post on X – Mine condolences to family, friends and admirers. May God comfort their hearts.”
Also the governor of Sergipe, Fábio Mitidieri, shared a thought on the 77-year-old’s death on social media. “I receive with regret the news of the death of Maria Feliciana dos Santos. Maria Feliciana left an extraordinary legacy, having her name immortalized in the largest building in our state (theState of Sergipea 28-story skyscraper located in Aracaju, is popularly known as ‘Maria Feliciana Building’, ed),” he wrote on X.
Santos became an attraction in his teenage years and spent many years in shows and circuses. She suspended her travels after he married Assuires Jose dos Santos in 1973. The Turk Rumeysa Gelgithe tallest living woman in the world, is 2.15 meters tall.
