“The story, which “expands” in elegant and engaging sentences, follows with powerful narrative details the sad story of a misunderstood poet, who fled the totalitarian regime to defend his freedom of expression and feeling. – it’s motivations of the JuryA poet who loves Omar Khyyam’s book of quatrains and lives on poetry and the sea. For this reason only the sea can be his tomb, the sea which is a symbol of infinity, the sea which is a symbol of freedom. The prose that follows the events of Eshan is sweet, but at the same time decisive.”.

I thank the Prize Jury and the President of ANCoS Enrico Inferrera who has been organizing this important competition for four years”said Fedeli, who has already won various literary prizes in the past with his first novel “Tobacconist” and with the story “In the city of Genoa”.

“The Tale “Eshan in the Sea” – explained the author – is a synthesis of many stories that I have collected on the street over the last few years. In Eshan there is my Moroccan window cleaner friend Larbi, there are Uzochi and Uzowa Nigerian brothers who are parking attendants in Fuorigrotta, there is my Palestinian poet friend Ashraf Fayadh who served ten years in prison and endured 100 lashes a day for having written a book of poems, there is my other Pakistani poet friend Umeed Ali who sells books on the street like the old Walt Whitman did, there is my Libyan film-maker friend Khalifa Abo Khraisse, son of a land raped first by colonialism and then by dictatorship, and there are those who I call “the inhabitants of the country under the sea”, those who were unable to survive the journey from Africa to Europe, my thoughts go to them in the abyss of the Mediterranean and I dedicate the Award to all the people I remembered”.
