FLORENCE – A man from Foligno continues to write the history of volleyball and more generally of Italian and world sport. Coach Daniele Santarelli (photo) wins his sixth consecutive championship.

Last night Imoco Conegliano in game 4 of the championship final beat Scandicci 3 to 1 (25-23, 17-25, 17-25, 21-2), closing the series 3 to 1 and giving the Venetian club their seventh consecutive championship. The players change, but the result does not change with Santarelli confirming himself as the “unbeatable man”.

This year, the 43-year-old from Foligno has won everything there was to win so far: the European Championship on the bench of Turkey, the Super Cup, the Italian Cup and now the Scudetto on the bench of Conegliano.

But it doesn’t end here because now on May 5th in Turkey he will return to the field for the grand slam. Conegliano challenges Milan in the Champions League final. Then in August Santarelli will attempt the feat, that is to win the only trophy still missing from his trophy cabinet, the Olympic one.

For the record, the Foligno coach on the Conegliano bench, in addition to 6 Scudetti, won 5 Italian Cups, 6 Italian Super Cups, a Champions League and 2 Club World Cups. Added to this is a World Cup with Serbia and a European Championship with Turkey.
