Breakfast risks becoming an increasingly less accessible luxury, at least according to the data released by a survey conducted by Advice on the price of a cup of coffee at the bar. Increases that also affect Friuli.
Analyzing the costs of coffee from 2021 to 2024 in various cities in the region, we note that in Trieste, the price of the cup increased by 12.3 percent. From an average price of 1.18 euros at the end of the pandemic period, it went to 1.28 euros in the first months of 2024. Udine, the jump was 14.5 percentwhile a Pordenone and its province even reached a +16 percent in the first months of the current year, again compared to 2021 data. The average cost is around around 1.35 euros, with some businesses having already exceeded 1.40 euros.
In Italy.
In Italy the average price of a cup consumed at the bar stands at 1.18 euros in the main Italian cities – explains Assoutenti – Only 3 years ago, in 2021, the average cost of an espresso was 1.03 euros: this means that Italians have already suffered a 14.9% increase for what is an indispensable daily tradition for millions of citizens.
The most expensive city.
Among the major cities, Bolzano is the one that holds the record for the expensive coffee at the bar, with an average price of 1.38 euros per cup, while Catanzaro, with an average of 0.99 euros, is the cheapest city, thus even surpassing Naples (1.05 euros). However, if you compare today’s price lists with those in force in 2021, you discover that the the province that has suffered the greatest price increases is Pescara, with the average price rising from 1 euro to 1.28 euros and an increase of +28%, followed by Bari with +24.4%.
“We fear that the increases in coffee prices could lead to price increases in the coming weeks both for drinks at bars (coffee, cappuccino, etc.) and for powdered coffee sold in supermarkets – states the president Gabriele Melluso – Even a few cents increase would cause a blow to consumers’ pockets, considering that in Italy they are served in public places approximately 6 billion coffees per year for an espresso turnover of around 7 billion euros per year”
