On Wednesday 24 April, at the Dora Bassi hall in Gorizia, a conference was held on the history of the geology of Friuli Venezia Giulia through the climatic variations that have occurred over the centuries. The event, organized by the Alpine Adriatic Meteorological Society and the Karst Research Center “C. Seppenhofer”, saw the participation of a large and attentive audience.

Professor Ester Colizza, from the University of Trieste, Department of Mathematics, Information and Geosciences Trieste, held the conference, addressing a very current and evocative topic. In particular, Professor Colizza analyzed the geological characteristics of the Friuli Venezia Giulia territory, reconstructing the climate of the past and the transformations that it has undergone over time.

As underlined by the speaker, climate changes have undoubtedly had repercussions on the geology of the area, giving rise to floods, droughts and earthquakes, then linked to great periods of cold (ice ages) and scorching heat. Temperature variations have alternated in the various geological eras, determining the current morphological characteristics of the territory.

Professor Colizza also highlighted how, in the past, there were undoubtedly anomalous peaks of heat and cold alternating with each other, but the time intervals between one phenomenon and the other were greatly spread over millions of years.

At the end of the conference, the audience wanted to delve deeper into some topics, peppering the professor with questions about the current situation of atmospheric changes. The speaker was very exhaustive in her historical-geological reconstruction, providing the audience present with a complete and in-depth vision of the topic covered.

In conclusion, the conference on the history of the geology of Friuli Venezia Giulia through climatic variations represented an important opportunity for in-depth analysis and discussion on climatic transformations and their repercussions on the territory, offering the public present an accurate and detailed analysis of the topic treaty.
