He did not make it Manuel Bedonni, the 25-year-old motorcyclist who crashed his motorbike into a truck on the evening of April 24th. The accident occurred on Via Porrettana, near Pontecchio Marconi, shortly after 9pm. Since the evening of the accident, Bedonni had been hospitalized with a reserved prognosis in the intensive care unit of the Maggiore hospital in Bologna. Today the news of the 25-year-old’s brain death arrived; therefore, there was nothing left for him to do. The family, the hospital says, has decided to donate the organs.

Manuel, a lover of engines, had inherited his passion from his father Marco Bedonnia rally driver from Bologna who passed away a year ago following complications from an illness.

Road deaths in 2024

So far there have been eleven victims on the roads of Bologna since the beginning of this year. The last to lose his life was Angelo Russo, a 48-year-old who died in Sant’Agata Bolognese in an accident between two cars. Among the victims of road accidents is the 73-year-old Lidia Borghesani, involved in an accident in San Matteo della Decima, a hamlet of San Giovanni in Persiceto. Before her he was also off in hospital Marcello Falconi, a 51-year-old truck driver who was seriously injured in a crash between trucks along the Bologna ring road on 28 February. But those who die on the asphalt are also young people like Raul Zanonia 19-year-old from Modena, who fatally collided with a van while traveling by car on Via Emilia.

Just a week earlier he had lost his life Riccardo Maestri, 57 years old, riding a scooter in via Enrico Mattei. Less than ten days earlier, however, Daniele Caradio, 43 years old and Carabiniere of the Bologna Army, he died riding his Ducati. The frontal impact with a car on San Vitale, in Canaletti di Budrio, was fatal.

Two spouses must be added to the list of victims on the asphalt, Pier Luigi Pasqua and Guglielma Ferro, their life was swept away in a few moments, in Quinzano, a hamlet of Loiano, on January 25th: the car in which they were traveling went off the road while it was in via delle Vigne. One flight into the escarpment, and there was nothing that could be done.

Finally, 8 days before the start of 2024, the first victim on the asphalt recorded in the Bologna area was the eighty-year-old Luigi Iannelli, hit and killed while crossing the road in Pontecchio, on Porrettana. A handful of days later, on January 15th, Giovanni Guidotti, 62 years old, he died during transport to the Maggiore hospital, after having crashed into the undercarriage of a heavy vehicle in the Ganzole area, while riding his scooter.
