In line with the analyzes at national level, the latest demographic bulletin drawn up by the municipal offices of Rimini records an increase in the indicator relating to ‘life expectancy from birth’ which, from 2022 to 2023, recovers almost half a year going from 82 to 82.4 years.
This indicator had undergone a statistical decline throughout the world. According to the scientific publication ‘Lancet’, in fact, from 2019 to 2021 Covid has reduced life expectancy by 1.6 years global, with “a sharp reversal of trend” compared to the increases recorded in previous years.
Now, national demographic data for the year 2023 marks an upward shift in the life expectancy curve. The data is also confirmed at a local level. In fact, if in 2019 the average life expectancy in Rimini was 83 years (among the highest in the country), between 2020 and 2022 this number had ‘plummeted’ to 82 years. In 2023, the return to growth with the recovery of almost half a year: 82.4 years.
2023, in Rimini, was the record year in particular for the ‘three-digit candles’ given the significant increase in ucentenarians present in the Rimini population, i.e. 65 compared to 55 in 2022, of which 52 women and 13 men. The highest number in the Rimini historical series.
“The 2023 statistical framework allows us to look to the future with optimism, suggesting that, despite the difficulties encountered, Rimini and Italy are overcoming the consequences of the pandemic and seeing a gradual recovery in life expectancy levels, in line with those of the 2019, a very positive year for longevity – says Anna Montini, Councilor for Statistics of the Municipality of Rimini -. An improvement that is reflected above all on our elderly, who, as we know, have been the most affected by Covid. An index of demographic recovery, therefore, but at the same time, of the effectiveness of measures for the protection of public health”.
