“April 25 was a day of rebirth.” The Liberation Day in the square of Sona in the words of councilor Merzi

After many days of rain and bad weather, yesterday there was finally a beautiful sunny day in Sona. Ideal for celebrating commemoration of April 25, Italy’s Liberation Day from Nazi-fascism on that day in 1945.

Also an opportunity to pay homage to the soldiers who died in the two world wars, whose names are imprinted on the monument to the fallen in Piazza della Vittoria. The demonstration took place right in front of it, unfortunately in the presence of few people.

Luckily our Alpine troops are here! These people after raising the flag in front of theirs cabin in via Romawent to the square in front of the monument, at 10.45 am. The parish priest Don Giorgio Zampini he recited some prayers and gave the blessing. Holy mass followed in the church. Representing the Sonese community were the councilors Paolo Bellotti and Roberto Merzi.

“April 25thsaid Roberto Merzi in front of the war memorialIt is a day of great significance, as we commemorate those who sacrificed to ensure the democracy and freedom we enjoy today. We would all have the right to live in safe places with our families; It’s like this here, but in many countries there are populations who are suffering from wars: evidently man hasn’t learned enough, and he believes he can solve problems with weapons”.

“April 25thcontinued Merziit was a day of rebirth and hope for Italy, to defend the values of freedom, justice and human dignity. Today, we pay homage to the men and women who fought for a free and democratic nation. This day is not only to remember, but also to renew our commitment to defend and preserve peace. Peace which unfortunately is not a right in many parts of the world; our thoughts must therefore go not only to the people of Ukraine and the Middle East, but to all those scattered across the earth who are at war and whose suffering is sometimes ignored. May Liberation Day inspire us with a feeling of solidarity towards them.”

The event took place with simplicity, a thousand miles away from the sometimes fiery controversies that have animated this anniversary in the media in recent days. All those present remembered with words, with silences, with prayers, those thanks to which today we are a nation that lives in democracy, freedom and well-being. Similar celebrations took place in Lugagnano, Palazzolo and San Giorgio in Salici.
