A story with a happy ending thanks to the great and sudden work carried out by the firefighters of the new Barberino di Mugello detachment active 24 hours a day in the barracks established at the Barberino di Mugello toll booth of the A1 motorway section. Beatrice tells it in a letter, a town of Barberino di Mugello e mother of one of the two young hikers we reported on on April 10th (Read our article here) recovered by the Barberino di Mugello Fire Brigade after becoming disoriented due to the onset of dusk and bad weather.

“When I saw the new fire station, I felt safer, but I never imagined that I would need their help and be able to live a touching and positive experience following a difficult situation and this is why I am writing to you. I would like to thank with deep gratitude the National Fire Brigade and in particular the staff of shift B of Barberino, who helped my son in an emergency late in the evening of April 10th.“, Beatrice writes to Ok!Mugello.

The son, together with a friend, had gone on an excursion to Valibona (above the Calenzano Crosses) when suddenly a a very strong storm took them by surprise and they have lost my bearings in the woods.

“They called us – the mother says again in the letter – terrified, in torrential rain, with the cell phone almost empty without knowing where to go. So I called 112 with apprehension and I immediately received great telephone assistance, both from the NUE center and subsequently from the fire brigade operations room, but Barberino’s team, which quickly intervened to help us, exceeded expectations. The team leader left us his telephone number reassuring me and then headed with the rest of the team towards the area identified by the operations room in Via La Farina. The team followed a path with a challenging slope for about 45 minutes of walking, while it continued to rain heavily and they reached the two boys who were scared and cold. The team then set off on the return journey, bringing them safely back to us parents, who were waiting for them on the main road in Landolaccio. “

“The team was wonderful, they reassured the kids, made them feel safe and when the parents came to us it seemed like they had found a “second family” in the fire brigade team. I will never forget the smiles of those boys from the Barberino detachment of Mugello addressed to us and to the guys who were lost, to make us rest assured that everything had gone well. This is not just doing your job but putting your heart into it and understand how much of a difference you can make for people who suddenly find themselves in difficulty and this team really did it!”, mother Beatrice then comments.

“Now, after recovering from the scare, I can – concludes the lady – just do mine most sincere thanks for your professionalism and kindnessfor all that was done starting from the operations room first and to the Barberino B shift team afterwards with their Team Leader in the search and recovery of my loved ones during this very bad experience. Thanks thanks thanks! I met truly special people to whom we will always be indebted and that we will remember for the great humanity, which is not at all taken for granted or due.”
