PALERMO – “I am not used to fueling controversy and it is certainly not a time for divisions, much less lacerations that do not do the Party any good. For this reason I asked the regional secretary of the Democratic Party, Anthony Barbagallo, and senator Antonio Nicita not to come to the party demonstration organized by me, for the party and not for me, tomorrow”. The PD deputy at the Ars, Dario Safina, says this.
The casus belli in the Trapani Democratic Party
Safina throws water on the fire of the differences that have become apparent in recent days regarding the demonstration that will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Crystal hotel in Trapani on the theme ‘A new time is possible, the party among the people and with the people’. The provincial secretary Domenico Venuti had reacted harshly and Safina had responded in kind.
The deputy reiterates “firmly” the opportunity for “confrontation and dialogue that the event represents, especially in view of the important electoral events in June but also – we read – with a view to the provincial congress in the autumn”.
“It’s not a time for divisions”
“My intention has always been to make a contribution, due to the role I hold and as I have always done from whatever position I have found myself in the party, to the growth of the Democratic Party in this area – he highlights -. This is not a time for splits, my propensity for dialogue and discussion is well-known, and it is indeed the time to build together, in full respect of roles, that new party that all of us members and supporters expect.”
“I thought it appropriate to ask the regional secretary of the Democratic Party not to come precisely to avoid turning a personal issue into a casus belli of the party and/or of currents within the Democratic Party – he continues -. It will be the secretary himself, when and if he deems it appropriate, to address the issue in the appropriate political forums”.
And furthermore: “I asked Senator Nicita, candidate for the European elections, not to participate in this event precisely to avoid labeling the political demonstration as a sort of electoral advert for some and not for all. It was not and is not my intention to show off consensual strength but, if anything, it was and is the intention of a militant who has the interests of a party at heart.”
Hand extended to Venuti and Villabuona
“Could it be said that I organized a pro domo mea demonstration? Yes, with the specification that my home is the Democratic Party – he highlights -, therefore legitimately and proudly”. Finally, the regional deputy reiterates the “invitation to détente” towards the provincial secretary of the Democratic Party, Domenico Venuti, and the president of the assembly, Valentina Villabuona: “There are all the conditions for working on the new Democratic Party, an inclusive Democratic Party and non-exclusive.”
