The prefect of Caltanissetta, Chiara Armenia, chaired the first meeting for planning activities aimed at preventing and combating forest fires in view of the approaching summer season.
At the beginning, the head of the prefecture underlined the need to plan a synergistic action between all interested parties in order to prepare an effective preventive strategy, capable of preventing and combating the spread of fires.
During the meeting, the prefect of Armenia addressed the mayors in particular, asking them to plan all the essential actions to reduce the risk – even just potential – of the ignition and spread of the flames.
In detail, local authorities have been invited to urgently plan the weeding operations of roadsides, parks, villas, and start cleaning the vegetation near wooded areas, strategic ones such as hospitals or residences for the elderly and, more specifically general, to all places close to the perimeter strips of anthropized areas.
Together with the provincial commander of the Fire Brigade, the prefect highlighted the importance of adopting the usual ordinances aimed at the population and aimed at dictating the indefectible rules of behavior to minimize the risk of fires, with particular regard to the cleaning of the land private.
In addition, the mayors will have to ensure, on days of high danger alert, particular vigilance, through adequate patrolling in the most critical areas. Voluntary associations will be able to provide a valid contribution in terms of immediate sightings with consequent favorable effects related to the speed of intervention.
During the next meeting, a mapping of the territory will be drawn up, in order to identify the most appropriate preventive strategy to minimize the risk of starting fires, also by intensifying checks on the territory by the police forces and police forces. municipal.
