Many paid homage yesterday afternoon in the Madonna delle Grazie church Palagianello to the 47 year old Giuseppe Tamburranothe employee of the multinational Vestas, who died last Monday, together with his work colleague Cosimo Ventruti, 46 years old from Pulsano, following a road accident which occurred in Matera.

The saddest day for work colleagues, many of whom did not want to fail to be close to their family members – wife, son, parents, brothers, in-laws – on the day of the funeral rite. While drizzle outside lashed the walls of the church, the packed interior was ideally transformed into a warm embrace directed at Giuseppe Tamburrano’s relatives.

Don Rocco Martucci, parish priest of the Madonna delle Grazie church in Palagianello, the neighborhood where Giuseppe grew up, celebrated the funeral. «There are many difficult questions that arise from the heart in front of his coffin. Questions – said the parish priest Don Rocco Martucci, during the homily – regarding the dynamics of the accident that killed him and his colleague; regarding the causes that produced it, the direct or indirect responsibilities, if they exist. But we also feel clearly that, if a comprehensive answer to all our questions were given, it would barely touch the mystery that lies before us, it would not satisfy us entirely. The awareness would always remain before us: In any case, Giuseppe is no longer here. There’s nothing to do; you can’t go back and write the events in another way. You just want to cry. Yet we must find some words to express what happened. Only in this way will we not be completely submerged by anguish and will we be able to contrast the sense of death with a fragment, albeit minimal, of hope.” In closing the reflection, addressing the assembly, Don Martucci said: «All of us will pay the price of our death to human nature; it is the law of all biological organisms. But precisely for this reason we need to live fully – without anxiety, but with intensity – the time that the Lord gives us. Only in this way – he concluded – will what we hope from God and what we ask of him for this brother of ours become a source of life for everyone.” Right behind the parish where the funeral was celebrated stands the sports center of the Anspi Asd San Giovanni Bosco oratory; five-a-side football pitch that Giuseppe – after abandoning his competitive activity playing for the Palagianello, Mottola and Palagiano teams – frequented from time to time, also taking part in the national Anspi five-a-side football tournament. Giuseppe, in fact, loved sport. And the presence yesterday of numerous friends with whom he shared this passion testifies to this. He left earthly life on the day in which his favorite team, Inter, won its second star. On the coffin, in addition to the flowers, the red shirt, with dedications, of the five-a-side football team with which he played, and the Nerazzurri colors and the twentieth championship. Upon leaving the church, Giuseppe Tamburrano’s coffin, carried on the shoulders of his team friends, was accompanied by long and thunderous applause, while the band honored him by playing the notes of Radetzky’s march.

And yesterday afternoon in the church of Santa Maria La Neve in Pulsano the funeral of Tamburrano’s colleague was also celebrated: relatives and friends also gave their final farewell to Cosimo Ventruti, the other technician who died in the same accident.
