The sculptor Cimarelli in Sicily: meeting at the Riso sul Contemporaneo Museum

Dionisio Cimarellian internationally renowned Italian sculptor who has lived in New York for many years, will exceptionally be in Sicily in the next few days. “Journey into the Contemporary. Conversation with Dionisio Cimarelli” is the title of the scheduled meeting Friday 3 May, at 6pm, at the Riso Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (in via Vittorio Emanuele 365), a Palermo. At the initiative, which will be opened by the director of the Riso Museum, Evelina De Castro, the Maestro will participate with a speech on his work in the context of contemporary sculpture. The art historian will take part in the round table Daniela Brignone, Giuseppe Cipollateacher at the Academy of Fine Arts of Palermo and archaeologist Rossella Giglio. The journalist moderates Alberto Samona. Entrance is free.

The meeting is organized by “Sicily Artist Retreats”an international art school operating between New York and Sicily, founded and chaired by Sciacca Volkov rosette and dedicated to the promotion of fine arts and excellence in the fields of sculpture and painting.

Dionisio Cimarelli was born in Jesi. His artistic career led him to work on important restorations of prestigious European monuments. He has contributed to the conservation and restoration of works of art at, among others, the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Royal Church in Copenhagen, the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the Strasbourg Cathedral and Westminster in London. Maestro Cimarelli’s talent and dedication have been recognized with scholarships from National Sculpture Society of New York and from New York Academy of Art. He also shared his experience as a guest professor in prestigious institutions such as the Wimbledon School of Art of London, the University King Saud in Riyadh. Silliman University in the Philippines e Bangkok University in Thailand. Cimarelli’s works have been exhibited around the world, from the Berlin Philharmonic to international art biennials in China. The best known sculpture of him is Matteo Ricci, created for the 400th anniversary and exhibited at the Italian Pavilion of the Shanghai Expo. In 2011 you participated in the Venice Biennale at the invitation of Vittorio Sgarbi. In 2013 he served as creative director of Studio Richard McDonald, one of the largest sculpture studios in California. He was a teacher at the Fashion Institute of Technologythe New York Academy of Art and, from 2015 to 2023, at The Art Students League of New York.
