The United States and 17 other countries today signed an appeal for the immediate release of their citizens held hostage in the Gaza Strip. “We demand the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza for over 200 days. Among these are our citizens.

The fate of the hostages and the civilian population a Gaza it is an international problem,” reads the statement published by the White House. “We emphasize that the agreement on the table for the release of the hostages would lead to an immediate and prolonged ceasefire in Gaza. This would facilitate an increase in necessary humanitarian assistance” and “lead to a credible cessation of hostilities”.

“We strongly support – concludes the appeal – the ongoing efforts for mediation” and “we reiterate our invitation to Hamas so that you release the hostages and let us end this crisis, so that together we can concentrate our efforts on the goal of bringing peace and stability to the region.”
